Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) . The LPN provides direct patient care to an incarcerated population under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or healthcare provider. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment where clinical judgment, professionalism, and strong communication skills are essential.
Essential Responsibilities
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.
- Conduct nursing assessments and document patient conditions accurately.
- Monitor patients for changes in condition and report significant findings to the RN or provider.
- Obtain and record vital signs, height, weight, and other health data.
- Assist with intake screenings and health assessments for newly admitted inmates.
- Provide wound care, dressing changes, and other nursing procedures within the LPN scope of practice.
- Assist with chronic care clinics and follow-up appointments.
- Respond to medical emergencies and assist with emergency interventions, including CPR when necessary.
- Prepare patients for provider evaluations and assist during examinations.
- Collect specimens for laboratory testing and ensure proper documentation.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records while following HIPAA and facility documentation standards.
- Educate patients on medications, chronic disease management, hygiene, and preventive healthcare.
- Ensure infection control protocols are followed at all times.
- Collaborate with physicians, registered nurses, mental health professionals, and correctional staff to provide safe, effective patient care.
- Maintain security awareness while providing healthcare services within the correctional environment.
Qualifications
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Ohio.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience preferred.
- Correctional, emergency, behavioral health, or medical-surgical experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
- Must successfully pass all required background checks and facility clearance requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing standards, infection control, and medication administration.
- Ability to prioritize patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR).
