Press Brake Operator
Job Description
The Press Brake Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC and manual press brakes to bend, form, and shape sheet metal according to precise engineering blueprints and job orders. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product quality, ensuring dimensional accuracy, and supporting overall throughput in high-precision manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Machine Setup & Operation
- Setup & Tooling: Select, install, and align correct dies, punches, and tooling based on material type, gauge thickness, and bend radii required.
- CNC Control: Load, edit, and adjust CNC controller programs (e.g., back-gauge positions, ram stroke, tonnage parameters).
- Operation: Form a variety of metals (carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum) maintaining tight tolerances across complex multi-bend sequences.
2. Blueprint Reading & Quality Control
- Read and interpret flat pattern engineering drawings, blueprints, and bend charts.
- Perform first-piece and in-process quality inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, protractors, height gauges, micrometers).
- Calculate bend allowances, flat lengths, and tonnage limits to avoid material fatigue or tooling damage.
3. Production Efficiency & Maintenance
- Monitor machine performance, tooling wear, and hydraulic levels; perform daily routine preventive maintenance (PM).
- Maintain clean and organized work spaces (5S standards) around press brake stations.
- Identify and report defective material, program errors, or equipment malfunctions immediately to management.
