Location: Pittsburgh, PA
Salary: $235,000–$365,000

Direct Counsel is seeking a Labor & Employment Associate Attorney to join a leading global law firm's Labor & Employment practice in Pittsburgh. This opportunity is ideal for a mid-level associate with 3–5 years of experience in employment litigation and/or complex commercial litigation, including single-plaintiff employment matters.

The successful candidate will take meaningful ownership of litigation matters, serving as a point person for cases, managing multiple matters simultaneously, supervising junior attorneys and staff, and communicating directly with clients. Experience with wage-and-hour class actions, employment counseling, and courtroom or deposition work is highly valued.

Responsibilities
  • Represent employers in employment and complex commercial litigation matters.

  • Handle single-plaintiff employment litigation from inception through resolution.

  • Assist with wage-and-hour class actions and other complex employment disputes.

  • Manage multiple litigation matters and take ownership of assigned cases.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact on litigation matters and coordinate with clients, attorneys, and legal support staff.

  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, and other litigation documents.

  • Conduct legal research and develop case strategy.

  • Manage discovery, including electronic discovery (e-discovery), document review, and production.

  • Apply Federal Court Rules and applicable procedural requirements throughout litigation.

  • Take and/or defend depositions and assist with courtroom proceedings, as applicable.

  • Supervise junior associates, paralegals, and other legal staff.

  • Communicate directly with clients regarding case developments, strategy, and litigation objectives.

  • Provide employment advice and counseling to clients as needed.

  • Manage case deadlines, budgets, workstreams, and competing priorities.

  • Collaborate with partners and attorneys across the firm's Labor & Employment and litigation practices.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.

  • 3–5 years of experience in employment litigation and/or complex commercial litigation.

  • Experience handling single-plaintiff employment matters.

  • Wage-and-hour class action experience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with Federal Court Rules and e-discovery.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.

  • Experience serving as the point person on litigation matters and taking ownership of cases.

  • Experience supervising junior associates and legal staff.

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.

  • Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical abilities.

  • Strong client communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Deposition and/or courtroom experience is preferred.

  • Employment advice and counseling experience is preferred.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and clients.
