Compensation: Up to $180,000/year, depending on experience

A well-established boutique law firm is seeking a Transactional Data Privacy Attorney to join its growing Oakland office. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to develop a sophisticated data privacy practice within a collaborative, entrepreneurial firm environment.

Position Overview

The attorney will advise business clients on a broad range of data privacy, cybersecurity, and technology-related transactional matters. The ideal candidate will have experience counseling companies on privacy requirements and incorporating data privacy considerations into commercial and corporate transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on data privacy and cybersecurity requirements in connection with business transactions.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, privacy provisions, and data processing agreements.
  • Advise clients regarding federal and state privacy laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct privacy due diligence in connection with M&A and other corporate transactions.
  • Assist clients with developing and maintaining privacy policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
  • Counsel clients regarding the collection, use, sharing, and protection of personal information.
  • Monitor emerging privacy legislation and regulatory developments and advise clients regarding their impact.
  • Work directly with clients and collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas.
Ideal Candidate
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • California Bar admission preferred/required.
  • Experience practicing data privacy, cybersecurity, technology transactions, commercial transactions, or related areas.
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to translate complex privacy requirements into practical business advice.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and client-management skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fully onsite boutique-firm environment.
