Cooperative & Condominium Associate
Job Description
Cooperative & Condominium Associate | NYC Real Estate | $160K–$190K | Established NY Full-Service Firm
If you've spent the last few years buried in proprietary leases, house rules, and board minutes, you already know this practice isn't glamorous. It's technical, it's political, and it actually matters to the people living in the buildings you represent. An established full-service NY firm's real estate group wants someone ready to run with that work, not just support it.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring a Cooperative & Condominium Associate with 4 to 7 years of experience representing co-op and condo boards. You'll act as outside general counsel across governance, finance, compliance, and day-to-day operational matters, including work with city and state regulated cooperatives under the Mitchell-Lama program. This is a seat with real ownership: you'll be trusted to run matters independently while backed by a real estate group that actually knows this niche.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Advising co-op and condo boards on governance: by-laws, proprietary leases, declarations, house rules, annual meetings, and elections
- Serving as primary counsel to Mitchell-Lama regulated cooperatives on operational and compliance matters
- Navigating city, state, and federal regulatory issues, including environmental rules, building codes, and local law compliance
- Counseling boards on corporate governance, financial matters, and fiduciary duties
- Negotiating and drafting construction, engineering, architectural, and property management agreements
- Negotiating access agreements and coordinating with the litigation team when disputes arise
WHAT YOU BRING
- 4 to 7 years representing cooperative and condominium boards
- Solid grounding in co-op and condo law, governance, and regulatory compliance
- Drafting and negotiation skills that don't need heavy supervision
- Comfort running multiple matters at once, independently and as part of a team
- Admission to the New York Bar
WHY THIS SEAT
Structured mentorship instead of sink-or-swim. Full marketing and BD support so you're not building a book from zero on your own time. Billable expectations that are reasonable, not performative. Exposure to a genuinely broad range of complex board work rather than the same three deal types on repeat.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
$160,000 to $190,000, based on experience. Medical, dental, and vision. 401(k) with firm contribution. PTO and paid holidays. Paid parental leave. Life and disability insurance. Wellness and EAP support.
Location: New York, NY (on-site) Type: Full-time
The firm is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender identity, disability, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
