About the Opportunity
A growing steel pipe manufacturing operation in Dearborn, Michigan is seeking an experienced Pipe Mill Operator to support daily production and operation of industrial pipe mill equipment. This position is ideal for someone with hands-on pipe mill, tube mill, rolling mill, or similar steel processing experience who also has some experience with SMAW (Stick) welding.
The right candidate will understand how to keep a production line running efficiently while maintaining quality, safety, and production standards. Candidates who can perform equipment setup, adjustments, changeovers, and basic troubleshooting will be especially valuable.
What You’ll Do
- Operate and monitor pipe mill equipment throughout the production process
- Perform machine setup, adjustments, and changeovers as required
- Monitor material flow and production to maintain consistent pipe quality
- Assist with coil changes and material handling as needed
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment or production issues
- Monitor production for dimensional accuracy and quality requirements
- Work to minimize downtime and maintain production throughput
- Help identify and reduce scrap and production inefficiencies
- Perform SMAW (Stick) welding as needed to support production and equipment needs
- Work closely with maintenance, welding, and production team members
- Follow all safety procedures within a heavy industrial steel manufacturing environment
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
What You Bring
- Previous pipe mill, tube mill, rolling mill, or similar steel processing experience
- Hands-on experience operating industrial production machinery
- Some SMAW (Stick) welding experience
- Experience with machine setup, adjustments, or changeovers preferred
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot basic mechanical or production issues
- Experience working with steel, pipe, tubing, coil, or similar materials
- Understanding of production expectations including quality, throughput, uptime, and scrap control
- Ability to work safely in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work hands-on as part of the production team
