Veterinary Anesthesia TechnicianIndyVet Emergency & Specialty Hospital | Indianapolis, INIndyVet Emergency & Specialty Hospital is looking for an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our anesthesia team. This is an opportunity to work alongside emergency and specialty veterinarians while caring for medically complex patients and developing your skills in veterinary anesthesia, surgery, patient monitoring, and critical care.If you enjoy anesthesia, thrive in a collaborative clinical environment, and want the opportunity to work with a diverse and challenging caseload, we'd love to hear from you.What You'll DoAs a Veterinary Anesthesia Technician, you will play an important role in the care of patients before, during, and after anesthesia and surgery. Responsibilities include:Prepare patients for anesthesia and surgical procedures, including venipuncture and IV catheter placementAssist with anesthetic induction, airway management, intubation, maintenance, and recoveryMonitor anesthetized patients closely and recognize changes in patient statusCalculate and administer anesthetic medications, constant rate infusions (CRIs), and IV fluid additives accuratelyProvide appropriate pain management and supportive patient careUtilize appropriate patient handling and restraint techniques based on individual patient needs and behaviorAssist veterinarians and specialty teams with surgical and diagnostic proceduresMaintain accurate anesthesia and patient monitoring recordsPrepare, maintain, and troubleshoot anesthesia equipment and suppliesCommunicate changes in patient condition promptly and effectively with veterinarians and the nursing teamFollow established anesthesia, patient safety, infection control, and hospital protocolsWork collaboratively with emergency, surgery, and specialty teams to provide high-quality patient careWhat We're Looking ForAt least 1 year of veterinary nursing or veterinary technician experience; anesthesia experience is strongly preferredStrong knowledge of veterinary medicine, anesthesia, sedation, anesthetic medications, and patient monitoringProficiency with venipuncture and IV catheter placementComfortable performing medication calculations, including CRIs and IV fluid additivesKnowledge of small animal surgery, disease processes, emergency medicine, and specialty medicineAbility to recognize changes in anesthetized patients and respond appropriatelyUnderstanding of animal behavior and low-stress patient handling; Fear Free familiarity is a plusStrong communication and teamwork skillsAbility to work independently while also collaborating effectively with veterinarians, specialists, and other veterinary techniciansFlexible, adaptable, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced emergency and specialty environmentScheduleThis is a full-time position with a Monday–Friday schedule consisting of four 10-hour shifts per week.The position includes some evening on-call and weekend on-call responsibilities. Specific scheduling and on-call expectations will be discussed during the interview process.Pay is generally $23 - $25 per hour, DOE.
