Job Description
A Class A Side Frame Fitter Welder is a senior-level manufacturing professional responsible for reading complex blueprints, precisely laying out, fitting, and tacking structural components, and executing high-integrity structural or pressure welds (using GMAW, FCAW, or GTAW) to build heavy side frames and industrial assemblies.
Key Responsibilities
- Layout and Fitting: Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and work orders to lay out, position, align, and fit structural components and side frame parts within strict tolerances.
- Assembly and Tacking: Use clamps, jacks, and precision leveling equipment to bolt, fixture, and tack-weld parts securely into position prior to final
- welding.
- Welding Operations: Perform multi-position welding (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead) on carbon steel, stainless steel, or specialty alloys utilizing FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes.
- Quality and Code Compliance: Adhere to strict industrial and structural standards (such as AWS or ASME codes), verifying dimensions and weld sizes with precision measuring tools.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate and maintain fabrication tools, torches, carbon arc gouging equipment, and power supplies in safe working order.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of heavy structural fitting and welding experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Certifications: Ability to successfully pass company and industry standard weld tests (AWS/ASME) in various positions.
- · Technical Skills: Exceptional blueprint reading, math comprehension, tape measurement accuracy, and proficiency with hand/power tools and cutting torches.
- · Physical Requirements: Stamina for manual labor, standing for long periods, and the ability to lift heavy metal components while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
