We are looking for a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join a growing accounting team in Arlington, Virginia. This role supports core accounting operations across multiple entities and plays an important part in maintaining accurate financial reporting, strengthening close processes, and delivering meaningful analysis to business partners. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in general ledger accounting, enjoys improving workflows, and works effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Lead key activities for monthly and quarterly close cycles, ensuring accurate financial results for operating and development-stage entities.
• Prepare and post journal entries related to revenue, accounts payable, payroll, prepaid costs, financing activity, and other general ledger transactions.
• Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances to maintain the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
• Develop entity-level financial statements and supporting schedules for project-related transactions and closing activities.
• Produce regular reporting on upcoming payment obligations, aged payables, and short-term cash requirements to support liquidity planning.
• Partner with finance, operations, and other internal stakeholders to deliver accounting analysis, ad hoc reporting, and profitability insights compared with budget expectations.
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and consultants by providing documentation and addressing technical accounting questions.
• Assist accounting leadership with budgeting support and analysis of near-term and long-range cash needs.• At least 2 years of accounting experience, including exposure to public accounting audit, general ledger accounting, or both within a for-profit environment.
• Demonstrated knowledge of month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
• Familiarity with accounting topics such as revenue recognition, leases, capitalization, debt activity, and consolidated reporting.
• Experience handling intercompany transactions and multi-entity accounting activity is preferred.
• Proficiency with ERP or general ledger platforms such as NetSuite, Oracle, or similar systems.
• Strong Excel skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across finance, treasury, operations, and legal teams.
• Background in renewable energy, construction, or real estate is a plus.
