Business Development Representative
Job Description
About the Role
We are a leading commercial plumbing services provider serving the greater Houston metro area, and we're looking for a driven, relationship-focused Business Development Representative to join our growing team. This role is central to our growth strategy — you'll deepen relationships within our existing commercial customers, uncover opportunities to expand the services we provide them, and actively pursue new business through government and education sector RFPs.
This is a hybrid position: you'll split your time between client site visits, meetings across the Houston metro, and remote/in-office work.
What You'll Do
Account Growth & Relationship Management
• Serve as a trusted point of contact for our existing portfolio of commercial customers, building long-term, consultative relationships
• Identify opportunities to cross-sell and upsell additional plumbing services (maintenance contracts, backflow testing, drain/sewer services, water heater programs, emergency service agreements, etc.)
• Conduct regular check-ins, site visits, and account reviews to understand customer needs and satisfaction
• Partner with operations and service teams to ensure smooth delivery on new and existing work, acting as the voice of the customer internally
Business Development & RFP Pursuit
• Proactively research and identify RFP/bid opportunities within government (municipal, county, state, federal) and education (K-12, higher ed) sectors across the Houston region
• Manage the RFP process end-to-end: tracking opportunities, coordinating proposal content, pricing input, compliance requirements, and submission deadlines
• Build relationships with facilities managers, procurement officers, and decision-makers within target government and education accounts
• Collaborate with leadership to develop win strategies and pricing approaches for competitive bids
• Maintain a pipeline of active and upcoming opportunities and report regularly on progress
Reporting & Strategy
• Track account growth, new business wins, and pipeline metrics using CRM tools (HubSpot)
• Provide regular updates and forecasts to leadership on account expansion and RFP pipeline status
• Stay current on market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory requirements affecting government/education procurement
What We're Looking For
• 3+ years of experience in business development, account management, or sales — commercial plumbing, mechanical, construction, or facilities services industry strongly preferred
• Demonstrated success growing existing accounts and/or winning competitively bid contracts
• Experience navigating government and/or education RFP processes is a strong plus
• Excellent relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills
• Self-motivated and comfortable managing a book of business independently
• Proficiency with CRM software and general business tools (Microsoft Office/Google Workspace)
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel throughout the Houston metro area
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
What We Offer
• Competitive salary plus commission - $80 - $110K OTE, uncapped commissions
• Health, dental, and vision insurance
• 401(k) with company match
• Paid time off and holidays
• Vehicle allowance / mileage reimbursement
• Hybrid work flexibility
• Opportunity to grow with an established, reputable company in a high-demand industry
