Job Summary

The Press Brake Operator performs metalworking operations to shape and form sheet and light metal into parts or products while meeting daily production requirements. This position is responsible for setting up and operating bending machines, producing parts according to design drawings, parts lists, and work instructions, and ensuring finished products meet quality standards.

The ideal candidate takes pride in getting the job done right the first time, works safely, pays close attention to detail, and contributes to continuous improvement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate one or more press brake machines and other metalworking equipment such as shears, saws, plate rolls, drills, or profile benders.
  • Cut, bend, roll, and form metal stock into parts or products according to specifications.
  • Inspect finished products for proper shape, dimensions, and quality.
  • Troubleshoot non-conforming parts and perform corrective actions or minor repairs when needed.
  • Move materials to the work area manually or using overhead cranes, pallet jacks, and other lifting equipment.
  • Use barcode scanners to track and move materials throughout the facility.
  • Communicate production issues that could affect quality or delivery schedules.
  • Evaluate tooling, machine setups, and procedures and recommend improvements.
  • Read and interpret manufacturing drawings and blueprints to properly set up machines.
  • Monitor parts during production to identify improper forming or other issues.
  • Troubleshoot material and machine problems as they arise.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve quality, efficiency, and production processes.
  • Complete required training and development.
  • Perform routine maintenance on press brakes and other bending equipment.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Work toward established production and quality goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to perform sheet metal operations accurately and precisely.
  • Ability to calculate and verify the tonnage required to bend parts based on material thickness, length, and type of material.
  • Strong knowledge of Trumpf bending machines and their user interface.
  • Ability to troubleshoot non-conforming material and identify potential causes such as incorrect K-factors.
  • Ability to safely use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and manufacturing drawings.
  • Ability to inspect parts visually and mechanically for conformance to specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and other lifting devices.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Strong communication and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.
  • Understanding of production processes with a strong focus on quality.
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute to process improvements.

Work Environment

This is a physically active position in a manufacturing/shop environment. Employees may be exposed to shop noise, dust, and particles. Consistent attendance and flexibility to respond to production and troubleshooting needs are required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for 8+ hours per day.
  • Ability to regularly stand, reach, bend, squat, push, pull, and move throughout the facility.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Manual dexterity to operate machinery, hand tools, power tools, and computer interfaces.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move 30–50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely handle and move metal materials.
  • Good vision and hearing necessary for safely performing job duties and reading blueprints and specifications.
