Job Summary

The Assistant Program Coordinator is a full-time position that combines direct participant support with program coordination responsibilities. Working alongside the Program Coordinator, this position provides engaging instruction and supervision to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) while developing the knowledge and skills necessary to assist in the day-to-day operation of The Arc of Katy's programs.


The Assistant Program Coordinator serves as a member of the direct support staff while also assisting with program planning, staff coordination, participant services, and administrative functions. In the absence of the Program Coordinator, this position assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the program, providing leadership to staff, responding to participant and family needs, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of services. This position is designed to provide operational continuity and support long-term succession planning for The Arc of Katy.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the program staff by providing direct participant support in the Day Program and Summer Program while maintaining required staff-to-participant ratios.
  • Lead engaging activities that promote socialization, independence, recreation, learning, and community inclusion.
  • Serve as the acting Program Coordinator during planned or unplanned absences of the Program Coordinator, providing leadership to staff, coordinating daily operations, addressing participant and family concerns, and ensuring continuity of program services.
  • Assist with daily program operations and opening/closing procedures, staff scheduling, substitute coordination.
  • Assist in planning monthly activity calendars and special events. Research and coordinate community outings and enrichment opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and program documentation.
  • Model professionalism and The Arc of Katy's core values. Mentor and support new staff members.
  • Cross-train in all major operational responsibilities of the Program Coordinator. Develop a working knowledge of participant enrollment, scheduling, transportation coordination, program planning, budgeting, and administrative procedures.


Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, special education, social work, recreation, human services, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, preferably adults
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to effectively guide and support a team
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic technology
  • Valid Texas driver's license with the ability to operate a 15-passenger bus
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
