Dispatcher
Job Description
We are looking for a dependable Dispatcher to support safety operations in Memphis, Tennessee. This Contract to permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who can remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and manage both emergency and routine calls with accuracy. In this role, you will help coordinate dispatch activity, maintain critical records, and assist with parking administration while working closely with student workers and department staff. The position is considered essential personnel and may require reporting during severe weather or closures.
The schedule for this position is Friday through Tuesday from 6:45a – 3p.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate emergency, urgent, and routine communications through 911 systems and radio channels, ensuring timely and accurate response in alignment with applicable policies and regulations.
• Oversee day-to-day parking program administration by issuing decals, updating permit information, and processing parking-related appeals.
• Prepare and maintain operational documentation, including dispatch logs, reports, records, and data entry, while safeguarding sensitive and confidential information.
• Monitor alarms, calls, and office activity continuously to identify unusual conditions and escalate concerns as needed.
• Support the upkeep and organization of departmental equipment and supplies to help maintain readiness for daily operations.
• Work collaboratively with student workers by providing direction and supporting efficient completion of departmental tasks.
• Participate in assigned training, workshops, and career development activities, including required annual Campus Security Authority instruction.
• Fulfill essential staffing expectations through reliable attendance and availability during inclement weather or other campus emergency closures.
• Perform additional operational and administrative duties as needed to support campus safety services.
• Prior experience in dispatching, call center support, customer service, or a related coordination role.• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally during emergency, high-volume, and routine situations.
• Proficiency with computer-aided dispatch systems, data entry, and maintaining accurate electronic records.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage documentation, reports, and confidential information responsibly.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that requires continuous attention to alarms, calls, and changing priorities.
• Ability to coordinate logistics effectively and work cooperatively with staff and student workers.
• Dependable attendance and willingness to serve as essential personnel during campus closures or severe weather conditions.
