Automotive Technician


Our client is looking for an experienced Automotive Technician to join our service team in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. This role covers diagnostics, maintenance, and repair across a mixed fleet passenger vehicles, light-duty trucks, and Class 6–8 heavy trucks. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between a car lift and a heavy-truck bay in the same shift, works accurately under a flat-rate or hourly production standard, and takes ownership of repairs from diagnosis through quality check.


Essential Duties:

· Diagnose, service, and repair passenger cars, light-duty trucks/vans, and medium- and heavy-duty trucks (Class 6–8), including gasoline and diesel powertrains.

· Perform engine, transmission, driveline, brake (hydraulic and air), suspension, steering, HVAC, and electrical diagnostics and repairs.

· Use scan tools and OEM diagnostic software to troubleshoot drivability, emissions, and electronic control system faults.

· Complete preventive maintenance services: oil and filter changes, fluid service, tire and wheel service, DOT inspections, and lubrication.

· Perform DOT annual inspections and document out-of-service conditions in accordance with FMCSA requirements.

· Diagnose and repair air brake systems, air suspension, PTO and hydraulic systems on heavy trucks.

· Accurately document complaint, cause, and correction on every repair order, including parts and labor used.

· Road test vehicles before and after repair to verify concerns and confirm repair quality.

· Communicate diagnostic findings and recommended repairs clearly to service advisors and dispatchers.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and comply with all shop safety, EPA, and OSHA requirements.

· Perform off-site mobile service as needed.

Requirements:

· Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as an automotive, fleet, or diesel technician.

· Demonstrated ability to work across light-duty and heavy-duty equipment, or a strong track record on one with willingness to cross-train on the other.

· Valid Indiana driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.

· Own set of hand tools appropriate to the trade (shop supplies major equipment and specialty tools will be provided).

· Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, service manuals, and OEM repair procedures.

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in a shop environment with varying temperatures.

· DOT/FMCSA annual inspector qualification

· Experience with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR, Duramax, or Power Stroke engines.
