Senior Buyer – Aerospace
Location: Whippany, NJ
Type: Full-Time, On-Site
Salary: $105,000 – $115,000 / year
Position Summary
The Senior Buyer strategically procures aerospace components, raw materials, processing services, and equipment to support production, overhaul, and program needs. Ensures compliance with quality standards, company policies, and regulations including ITAR, DFARS, and DPAS while partnering across teams to secure on-time delivery and cost competitiveness.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Analyze MRP requirements and production schedules to support inventory and delivery goals.
- Manage procurement lifecycle for components, machined parts, forgings, castings, and outside processing.
- Develop sourcing strategies; solicit quotes, perform price analyses, and negotiate contracts.
- Evaluate, monitor, and maintain supplier performance, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure purchase orders include flow-downs (AS9100, AS9102, ITAR, DFARS, FAR, DPAS).
- Resolve nonconforming material reports, specification questions, and corrective actions with Quality/Engineering.
- Expedite critical shortages, mitigate supply chain risks, and track supplier metrics.
- Address invoicing discrepancies with Finance and support regulatory/customer audits.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience: 5+ years in aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing procurement; MRP/ERP proficiency required.
- Skills & Knowledge: Strong grasp of AS9100, FAR, DFARS, ITAR, EAR, and DPAS; ability to read engineering drawings and specs; strong negotiation and cost-analysis skills.
- Preferred: CPIM/CPSM/CSCP certification; experience with military programs, forgings, and precision machining.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Manufacturing environment with periodic shop floor and supplier visits.
- Export Compliance: Must be eligible to access export-controlled technical data under U.S. regulations.
