Position Summary

The Controller trains and leads the accounting team across Marmol Radziner’s entities, reporting to the Director of Finance, and serves as a trusted financial partner to senior leadership. This role is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the firm’s financial reporting; project accounting; budgeting and forecasting; tax compliance; treasury activities; and internal controls.

This is a hands-on leadership role that balances day-to-day oversight with strategic financial guidance. The Controller manages multi-entity consolidations, supports informed business decisions, develops the accounting team, and strengthens systems and processes as the firm grows.

Key Competencies

Success in this role is evaluated through the following competencies:

Financial Reporting, Close & Systems – Produces complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting across multiple entities. Maintains general ledger integrity, resolves discrepancies, and consistently meets close deadlines. Builds scalable, well-documented accounting processes, uses financial systems effectively, improves reporting quality, and addresses process gaps before they affect the business.

Project Financial Management – Demonstrates command of job costing, work-in-progress reporting, project billing, and project-level financial analysis. Partners effectively with Project Managers to identify risks early and support profitable project outcomes.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Insight – Develops reliable budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections. Interprets financial results, tests assumptions, and translates data into clear recommendations that support leadership decisions.

Controls, Compliance, Risk Management & Treasury – Maintains strong internal controls and audit-ready records, ensures compliance across jurisdictions, and exercises appropriate judgment when evaluating financial, tax, and operational risk. Maintains visibility into liquidity and working-capital needs, protects firm assets through appropriate authorization protocols, and manages banking and payment activities with accuracy and discretion.

Leadership, Accountability & Team Development – Takes ownership of financial operations and follows issues through resolution. Prioritizes effectively, adapts as firm needs change, and balances immediate requirements with long-term operational improvement. Sets clear expectations, communicates clearly, delegates appropriately, develops team capability, and holds staff accountable for accurate, timely work while fostering trust, collaboration, and professional growth. Reports and partners closely with the Director of Finance.

Communication – Communicates clearly, confidently, and strategically with senior leadership, Project Managers, external advisors, and the accounting team. Makes complex financial information understandable and handles sensitive information with discretion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.

• Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least two years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.

• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks.

• Experience in a project-based industry, including job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and AIA-format billing.

• Experience managing multi-entity financial reporting, consolidations, and multi-state tax compliance.

• Experience with Sage Intacct or a comparable accounting system.
