Job Description

MIDSTATE CONSTRUCTION

Traveling Construction Superintendent

Petaluma, CA (office) | Projects from Salinas to Eureka and east to Sacramento

Pay: $125,000 – $175,000 per year, depending on experience

Plus: Company truck + fuel card, per diem and paid lodging on out-of-area jobs, full benefits

Our work: Multi-family, rehab, senior housing, commercial, K–12, higher education, public works, and tribal projects

Why This Job Is Different

When a project takes you out of the area, Midstate covers your lodging and pays a daily per diem on top of your salary. You get a company truck and a fuel card. And because our work runs from Salinas to Eureka and out to Sacramento, plenty of jobs are close enough to sleep in your own bed.

Our projects span multi-family, senior housing, occupied rehabs, commercial, K–12 and higher education, public works, and tribal sectors.

We’ve been building in the North Bay since 1935, and we were recently voted one of the North Bay’s Best Places to Work. Our field leadership has been here 10, 20, 30 years — people don’t leave, which tells you most of what you need to know about how we treat superintendents.

The Role

You’ll run projects valued at $10M and up — multi-family, rehab, senior housing, commercial, K–12, higher education, public works, and tribal — from mobilization through closeout. You own the site.

What you’ll do

• Run the job start to finish — schedule, sequence, quality, safety, closeout

• Build and maintain rolling four-week look-ahead schedules

• Coordinate subcontractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, and vendors

• Lead the field team and hold the line on quality workmanship

• Enforce building code, OSHA, and our IIPP on site every day

• Report progress in weekly OAC meetings and keep the owner confident

• Solve problems in the field before they become RFIs, delays, or change orders

What You Bring

Required

• 7+ years as a construction superintendent, including projects over $10M

• Hands-on knowledge of concrete, framing, and finish carpentry

• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and IIPP implementation

• Proven ability to build a schedule, hold subs to it, and recover it when it slips

• Comfortable in construction software — we run Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, and Office 365. If you’ve used comparable platforms, we’ll train you on ours.

• Clean driving record and willingness to travel within our Northern California footprint

Nice to have

You won’t have all of these. Tell us which ones you do — any of them moves you up the list.

• Prevailing wage projects and certified payroll / DIR compliance

• Self-perform concrete and framing crews — planning the work, not just subcontracting it

• DSA-approved projects and coordination with an Inspector of Record (IOR)

• OSHPD / HCAI projects

• Occupied-site and phased rehab work — keeping residents or staff safe and in place through construction

• Type III and Type V wood-frame multi-family

• Affordable housing (LIHTC / TCAC) inspections and documentation

• Work on tribal land, including TERO compliance

• Lease-leaseback, design-build, or CM at-risk delivery

• SWPPP / QSP, CALGreen, and Title 24 requirements

• OSHA 30, First Aid / CPR, LEED accreditation

Compensation and Benefits

• $125,000 – $175,000 annual salary, depending on experience

• Per diem and paid lodging on out-of-area projects

• Company truck and fuel card

• Medical, dental, and vision

• Company-paid life insurance

• 401(k) with Safe Harbor contribution

• Career Development Program — we promote from within and pay for the training to get you there

• Two weeks of paid vacation plus paid holidays — a third week of vacation after five years
