Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious General Helper to support daily operations on an active construction jobsite. This role involves assisting welders, serving as a dedicated spotter for manlifts/aerial lifts, performing fire watch duties during hot work, and carrying out general labor tasks. The ideal candidate is a hard-working team player who prioritizes safety, follows instructions carefully, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced outdoor construction environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist welders by preparing materials, staging equipment, holding materials in place, cleaning work areas, and performing other support tasks as directed.
  • Serve as a spotter/signal person for manlifts, scissor lifts, and other aerial equipment—maintaining constant communication with the operator and monitoring for hazards, overhead obstacles, and personnel in the work zone.
  • Perform fire watch duties during welding, cutting, grinding, or other hot work: monitor the area for sparks/fires before, during, and after operations; maintain proper extinguishing equipment readiness; and follow all hot-work permit procedures.
  • Perform general labor duties including site cleanup, material handling and staging, debris removal, tool and equipment transport, basic site preparation, and assisting other trades as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and site-specific rules.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisors or crew leads.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Reliable transportation and ability to arrive on time for scheduled shifts.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
  • Basic understanding of construction site safety practices (preferred).
  • Ability to obtain or currently hold relevant certifications is a plus (e.g., aerial lift/spotter training, fire watch, OSHA 10, welding helper experience).
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check (if required by the company or client).

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment (typically up to 50 lbs regularly; heavier loads with assistance).
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working at heights or in confined areas as needed.
  • Comfortable working around welding, cutting, and other hot-work operations while maintaining focus during fire watch and spotting duties.

Work Environment
Outdoor construction jobsite with exposure to weather, noise, dust, fumes, and moving equipment. Safety is the top priority—proper PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, high-visibility vest, etc.) is required at all times.
