Medical Assistant – Front & Back Office (Internal Medicine)

We are seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join a one-physician Internal Medicine practice focused on adult primary care. It can be a part time to full-time position in a professional, patient-centered office where strong clinical skills, organization, and communication are essential.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in a primary care or internal medicine setting and is comfortable supporting both front and back office functions. This role requires hands-on clinical ability as well as experience with medical records, insurance processes, and in-office laboratory procedures.

Position Details

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and assist the physician during examinations
  • Obtain and document vital signs and patient histories
  • Perform and document EKGs
  • Conduct audiometry, pulmonary function tests, and visual acuity testing
  • Perform phlebotomy and assist with in-office lab procedures
  • Handle, label, process, and prepare specimens for transport in accordance with protocols
  • Prepare exam rooms and maintain clinical and lab supplies
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow
  • Verify insurance and assist with basic eligibility checks
  • Manage and maintain accurate medical records and documentation
  • Answer phones and provide professional, courteous patient support
  • Coordinate labs, referrals, and follow-up care as needed
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations

Qualifications

  • Previous Medical Assistant experience required; primary care or internal medicine experience preferred
  • Experience working with adult patients
  • Phlebotomy and specimen handling experience required
  • Proficiency in EKGs, audiometry, pulmonary function testing, and visual acuity exams
  • Knowledge of medical records systems and documentation standards
  • Experience with insurance verification
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to multitask in a small office environment
  • Comfortable working in a single-provider practice
