Automotive Technician / R&R Mechanic – Full Time

Smog Mart is looking for an experienced, dependable Automotive Technician / R&R Mechanic to join our busy automotive repair facility in South Sacramento.

Our primary need is a strong remove-and-replace (R&R) technician who can efficiently perform general mechanical repairs. Experience with diagnostics, diesel repair, California Smog inspections, or VSSI Brake & Lamp inspections is a major plus and can significantly increase earning potential.

Responsibilities:

• Perform general automotive repair and R&R work
• Engines and engine components
• Transmissions
• Suspension and steering
• Brakes
• Cooling systems
• Alternators, starters, water pumps and related components
• A/C and heating repairs
• Timing components and other mechanical repairs
• Inspect vehicles and identify additional needed repairs
• Accurately communicate findings to the service team
• Maintain an organized and professional work area
• Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining quality workmanship

Highly Preferred Skills:

• Automotive diagnostics and electrical troubleshooting
• Check-engine-light and drivability diagnosis
• Diesel repair experience
• California Smog Check license
• California VSSI / Brake & Lamp inspection experience
• ASE certifications

You do not need to have every specialty listed above. We are primarily looking for a capable R&R mechanic. Technicians with additional diagnostic, diesel, Smog, or VSSI experience will receive strong consideration and may qualify for higher compensation.

• Previous professional automotive repair experience
• Strong mechanical knowledge
• Ability to independently complete common R&R jobs
• Ability to properly diagnose basic mechanical problems
• Reliable and dependable
• Valid driver's license
• Professional attitude and good communication
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy repair-shop environment

Compensation:
$25–$40+ per hour depending on experience, capabilities, licenses, and certifications.
