Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and professional Behavioral Healthcare Provider I to join an interdisciplinary mental health treatment team serving individuals with mental health needs within a correctional setting. This position provides mental health screenings, assessments, individual and group interventions, treatment planning support, case management, documentation, and coordination of services for an assigned caseload.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and documentation skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, and a commitment to providing appropriate, ethical, and evidence-based mental health services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide assigned mental health interventions to a caseload of individuals with mental illness in a correctional setting.
- Conduct detailed mental health screenings and risk assessments, including suicide watch assessments when within the provider's scope of practice and permitted by applicable credentialing requirements and organizational policy.
- Conduct individual and group clinical interventions in accordance with individualized mental health treatment plans and under appropriate clinical supervision.
- Provide psychosocial group interventions as prescribed by the mental health treatment plan.
- Serve as a mental health liaison for an assigned caseload and monitor progress toward treatment plan goals.
- Complete psychosocial needs assessments and treatment assessments as part of interdisciplinary treatment planning.
- Prepare transfer summaries, discharge summaries, discharge plans, and other required clinical documentation.
- Consult with institutional staff regarding individuals' mental health needs, institutional adjustment, treatment progress, and service requirements.
- Establish and maintain appropriate communication with families and community agencies as part of the treatment process.
- Obtain and provide information necessary to support patient care and treatment.
- Make appropriate community referrals in coordination with the mental health treatment team.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic documentation of all patient contacts, mental health liaison progress notes, treatment activities, discharge plans, forms, reports, and other required records.
- Participate in social work, counseling, clinical supervision, and interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Attend required in-service training, workshops, and professional development activities.
- Maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and credentialing requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Behavioral Health, or a related field, as required by the applicable position and credentialing requirements.
- Appropriate professional credentials or eligibility for credentialing based on the requirements of the position.
- Experience providing behavioral health, mental health, counseling, social work, or case management services preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness or complex behavioral health needs preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation and handle confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Ability to provide services within established scope of practice, supervision requirements, policies, and professional standards.
Work Environment
This position works in a correctional behavioral healthcare environment and requires regular interaction with individuals receiving mental health services, correctional staff, families, community agencies, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
