Assistant General Manager

Job Summary

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the coffee shop and front-of-house team while supporting the General Manager in achieving operational, financial, and guest service goals. The AGM serves as the primary leader for coffee bar, drive-thru, dining room, and guest experience operations, ensuring every shift is well staffed, organized, and executed to company standards. This role develops front-of-house leaders, maintains a culture of accountability, and ensures consistent execution of service, beverage quality, cleanliness, and hospitality standards.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

· Oversees daily front-of-house operations, including the coffee bar, drive-thru, dining room, host stand, and guest service.

· Acts as Manager on Duty and leads shifts by directing team members, assigning priorities, and maintaining operational flow.

· Partners with the General Manager to achieve sales, labor, guest satisfaction, and profitability goals.

· Leads, coaches, trains, and develops shift leads, baristas, cashiers, hosts, and front-of-house team members.

· Ensures all specialty coffee, espresso, tea, smoothie, and beverage recipes are prepared consistently to company standards.

· Monitors speed of service, order accuracy, drive-thru efficiency, and guest satisfaction, implementing improvements when needed.

· Resolves guest concerns professionally and empowers the team to recover service opportunities.

· Assists with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management for front-of-house staff.

· Conducts regular coaching conversations, performance feedback, and accountability discussions.

· Ensures proper cash handling, drawer reconciliation, discounts, coupons, voids, and POS procedures are consistently followed.

· Maintains high standards for cleanliness, organization, merchandising, and facility appearance.

· Monitors inventory levels for coffee, beverage, and front-of-house supplies and assists with ordering.

· Supports execution of promotions, seasonal beverage launches, and operational initiatives.

· Ensures compliance with company policies, food safety requirements, health regulations, and licensing requirements.

· Completes reports, audits, administrative tasks, and other duties as assigned by the General Manager.

Position Qualifications / Functional Skills

· Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing front-of-house teams.

· Excellent guest service, communication, and conflict-resolution abilities.

· Comprehensive understanding of coffee shop, café, and drive-thru operations.

· Experience managing labor, scheduling, productivity, and service standards in a fast-paced environment.

· Working knowledge of POS systems, cash controls, inventory management, and operational reporting.

· Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.

· Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and accountable workplace culture.

· Availability to work 45–50 hours per week, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education, Experience, and Certifications

· High School Diploma or GED required.

· Minimum of 3 years of restaurant or coffee shop experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or management role.

· Coffee shop, café, or quick-service management experience strongly preferred.

· Food Handler and TABC certification required (or ability to obtain).
