Provides professional clerical support following established standards and practices. Contact payers to verify benefits and insurance information prior to a patient’s appointment/procedure/surgery. Refers matters outside their scope of duties to the Billing Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify patient benefits for various visit types/procedures and surgery codes by contacting payors (via phone and internet)
  • Document/update information in patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Contact patient to obtain insurance information
  • Explain applicable benefits, co-pays co-insurance and/or deductible to patient.
  • Obtain authorizations.
  • Represents clinic in a professional manner. Treats all patients courteously and cooperatively.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years clerical experience in medical office environment.
  • Working knowledge of billing/insurance processes and guidelines
  • Ability to multi-task in a stressful, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate with coworkers, providers and patients in an effective manner.
  • Ability to use a computer and enter data in electronic medical record system.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years clerical experience in medical office environment.
  • Accounts Receivable experience helpful.
  • Ophthalmology experience a plus.
  • Navinet, Pear, Availity, OneSource, and payor website knowledge a plus
