Position Title: Permanent Part-Time Substitute Teacher Reports To: Principal / School Administration Employment Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt School: Orton Academy (Grades 2–8) Position SummaryOrton Academy is seeking a dedicated, flexible, and student-centered Permanent Part-Time Substitute Teacher to provide consistent instructional support across grades 2–8. This position serves as an integral member of the educational team, ensuring continuity of instruction when classroom teachers are absent while supporting Orton Academy's mission of meeting students where they are academically and fostering success for neurodivergent learners.The Permanent Part-Time Substitute Teacher works closely with classroom teachers, interventionists, special education staff, and administration to maintain a positive learning environment and implement lesson plans aligned with school curriculum, instructional practices, and student learning goals.About Orton AcademyOrton Academy is a public charter school dedicated to empowering neurodivergent learners through individualized instruction, evidence-based literacy practices, and a supportive educational environment. Our staff is committed to understanding learning differences, fostering student confidence, and delivering rigorous instruction through a compassionate, student-centered approach.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructional SupportDeliver instruction and facilitate learning activities according to teacher lesson plans and school expectations.Maintain continuity of instruction in classrooms during teacher absences.Support the implementation of Orton Academy's curriculum and instructional programs.Facilitate small-group and whole-group instruction as assigned.Assist students in accessing classroom content and completing academic tasks.Support literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies instruction across grade levels.Student SupportFoster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom culture.Build supportive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries and expectations.Implement classroom management strategies consistent with school-wide practices.Support students with diverse learning needs, including students with dyslexia, ADHD, autism, and other neurodiverse profiles.Follow accommodations and support plans as directed by teachers and student services staff.CollaborationCommunicate effectively with teachers, administration, special education staff, and support personnel.Review lesson plans, schedules, and classroom procedures before assuming instructional responsibilities.Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training opportunities as assigned.Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational records.School OperationsSupervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, and other assigned duties.Follow all school safety procedures, emergency protocols, and reporting requirements.Maintain accurate attendance and classroom records when assigned.Assist with school-wide events, assessments, and activities as needed.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Ability to obtain and maintain required Colorado substitute authorization or teaching credentials.Experience working with children in educational, childcare, youth development, or related settings.Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.Ability to adapt quickly to changing assignments and instructional environments.PreferredBachelor's degree in education or related field.Colorado teaching license or substitute authorization.Experience working with students with dyslexia, learning disabilities, or other neurodiverse learning profiles.Familiarity with structured literacy, Orton-Gillingham-based practices, MTSS, and special education supports.Experience in K–8 educational settings.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCommitment to Orton Academy's mission and values.Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.Strong instructional and classroom management skills.Ability to work independently while following established lesson plans and procedures.Flexibility and willingness to serve multiple grade levels and subject areas.Understanding of differentiated instruction and student-centered learning practices.Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.Physical RequirementsAbility to move throughout classrooms and school facilities.Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors.Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and supplies up to 25 pounds.Ability to stand, walk, and engage actively with students throughout the workday.
