SHIFT LEAD

Position Description

Shift: 2nd Shift
Pay Range: $25 – $28/hour + $2/hour shift premium

Purpose of the Job
The Shift Lead is responsible for coordinating daily production activities, guiding team members, and ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency standards are met throughout the shift. This role acts as the primary point of contact on the floor, supporting the supervisor by keeping production on schedule and troubleshooting issues as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate daily production activities across assigned work areas to meet output and quality targets.
  2. Assign tasks and provide direction to team members throughout the shift.
  3. Monitor production flow and address bottlenecks, equipment issues, or staffing gaps as they occur.
  4. Serve as the first point of escalation for questions, quality concerns, or safety issues on the floor.
  5. Support training and onboarding of new team members.
  6. Track and report production metrics, downtime, and quality issues to the supervisor or manufacturing leadership.
  7. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and proper PPE use across the shift.
  8. Communicate shift updates, priorities, and issues to the incoming/outgoing shift and leadership.
  9. Help enforce quality standards and consistency across production runs.
  10. Assist with scheduling adjustments and coverage as needed.
  11. Support continuous improvement initiatives and help implement process changes on the floor.
  12. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manufacturing leadership.
Education and Experience
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience in a woodworking, manufacturing, or production environment required.
  3. Prior lead, supervisory, or informal team-coordination experience preferred.
  4. Ability to read and interpret work orders, drawings, and production schedules.
  5. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions under time pressure.
  6. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to direct and motivate a team.
  7. Basic understanding of production equipment and quality standards across multiple work areas.
Physical Requirements
  1. Extensive standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout the shift.
  2. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  3. Ability to move throughout the production floor and respond quickly to issues.
  4. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Personal Protective Equipment
  1. Safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe footwear, and any other required PPE are mandatory while on the production floor.
Work Environment
  1. Continuous noise typical of a woodworking manufacturing environment.
  2. Exposure to wood dust, adhesives, and airborne particles across multiple production areas.
  3. Fast-paced production environment requiring frequent movement between work areas.
  4. May experience hot, humid, dusty, or otherwise disagreeable conditions.
  5. Exposure to hazards where failure to exercise care could result in injury.
