JOB SUMMARYThe Youth Sports Coach is responsible for creating a positive, safe, and engaging environment for youth participating in recreational sports programs. This seasonal position provides instruction, skill development, and encouragement while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about working with children and helping participants build athletic skills, confidence, and a lifelong enjoyment of sports.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate practices that teach the fundamentals and skills of the assigned sport.
  • Coach youth participants during practices and games while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment that encourages participation and personal growth.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by following established safety procedures and responding appropriately to emergencies.
  • Organize drills, activities, and game strategies appropriate for participants' ages and skill levels.
  • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to help participants develop skills and confidence.
  • Communicate effectively with participants, parents, volunteers, and recreation staff regarding schedules, expectations, and program updates.
  • Set up and take down equipment before and after practices and games.
  • Inspect playing areas and equipment for safety concerns and report hazards promptly.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training sessions, and league events.
  • Maintain a professional, positive attitude and serve as a role model for participants.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience coaching, teaching, or working with youth is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals and rules of one or more youth sports.
  • Ability to motivate and positively engage children of varying ages and abilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Successful completion of a background check as required for working with youth.
  • Minimum age requirement may apply based on program needs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, run, and actively participate in sports activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Visual and auditory ability to supervise participants safely during practices and games.
