Apprentice Funeral Director/Embalmer

Meadows Funeral Home of Albany, Inc. is seeking an Apprentice Funeral Director/Embalmer to support compassionate, professional service for families in their time of need.

Position Summary

The Apprentice Funeral Director/Embalmer assists with funeral and burial preparation under the guidance of licensed professionals. This role provides hands-on experience in supporting arrangements, preparing bodies for services, and ensuring a respectful, well-organized environment throughout every stage of the process.

This part-time onsite position is ideal for an individual who is dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering service with dignity, care, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of bodies for services in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.

• Support funeral arrangement tasks, including coordinating schedules, organizing information, and preparing for services.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the facility, preparation areas, and equipment used in daily operations.

• Provide empathetic support to families and visitors by following direction and maintaining respectful communication.

• Assist with case documentation and ensure required information is handled accurately and confidentially.

Required Qualifications

• Completed or enrolled in mortuary college.

• Strong commitment to professionalism, compassion, and respectful conduct at all times.

• Ability to follow instructions carefully and maintain consistent attention to detail.

• Willingness to assist with tasks required for preparation and facility operations.

• Reliability and punctuality in an onsite, part-time setting.

• Ability to work in a structured environment while handling sensitive situations with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a funeral home, healthcare, or customer service setting involving sensitive family interactions.

• Familiarity with basic sanitation, safety practices, and handling procedures in a professional environment.

• Demonstrated ability to remain calm, respectful, and service-focused during emotionally charged situations.

• Interest in pursuing a career path within funeral directing and embalming.

Compensation

Weekly salary: $400.00 minimum
