The primary mission for the Interim Operations Manager is to build a cohesive team, improve existing processes, and improve customer satisfaction. The Operations Manager will identify improvement opportunities in organizational structure, business procedures, and staff education that can provide operational, financial, and quality improvements to Sterile Processing. They will coordinate and monitor all sterile processing and distribution functions such as decontamination, preparation/packaging, sterilization of surgical instruments, and case carts. This role works with the Administration and the Sterile Processing Management team(s) to implement improvement opportunities.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the designated facility Director(s)
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
SIPS will undertake the collection, review, and analysis of data that includes, but is not limited to:
Management Guidance / Mentoring & Process Improvement
- Implement tools to effectively perform day-to-day operations
- Manage, coach, and mentor staff
- Evaluate current processes and implement Process Improvement Initiative
- Provide weekly project status reports to project director
- Communicate barriers that will interfere with daily operations to appropriate parties
Human Resource Management
- Measure departmental workload statistics to determine efficient scheduling practices
- Staffing matrix
- Staff to procedural demand
Instrumentation
- Identify standardization and utilization opportunities
Efficiencies in Sterile Processing
- Instrument storage and handling
- On-time tray delivery
- Condition and accuracy of instrument sets and instrument set lists
- Compliance with sterilization, infection control, quality, and regulatory requirements
- Space utilization
- Processing volume/activity validation
- Inventory management
- Productivity indicators
- Quality Assurance Programs
- Review Policies and Procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
Knowledge and Skills
- Associates Degree.
- Minimum of seven years of experience in an acute or ambulatory sterile processing department.
- Five successful years of SPD leadership experience.
- Current Sterile Processing Technician certification.
- Strong initiative, innovation, organization, and attention to detail are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across various audiences.
- Strong customer service and client relations skills.
- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand medical terminology in order to follow written instructions and complete various forms and records regarding equipment’s processing and preparation of equipment.
- Proficient in Microsoft word and Excel; with the ability to create power points and give presentations.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed.
