Full-Time Day/Night Rotation \u007C Bethesda, Maryland

We are seeking one experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse to provide safe, high-acuity patient care at the NIH Clinical Center. This full-time contract opportunity may lead to long-term or permanent employment based on performance and continued staffing needs.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 36 hours per week

  • Rotating day and night shifts

  • Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth

  • Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution

  • Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN

  • Two to three years of current critical-care nursing experience in an acute-care hospital

  • Current Basic Life Support certification

  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification

  • Demonstrated current competency in intensive-care nursing

  • Effective English communication skills

  • Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation

  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status

Preferred Qualification

  • Current Critical Care Registered Nurse certification

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients

  • Perform comprehensive and ongoing critical-care assessments

  • Continuously monitor patients and promptly respond to changes in condition

  • Manage patients requiring advanced monitoring, complex medication regimens, and life-support therapies

  • Administer medications, titratable infusions, blood products, and treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice

  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, laboratory findings, hemodynamic data, and other clinical information

  • Recognize emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions, including ACLS protocols

  • Operate critical-care equipment safely and verify alarms and safety settings

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation

  • Educate and support patients and their families

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team

  • Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety requirements, and professional standards

  • Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities

  • Float to another critical-care or patient-care area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN’s demonstrated competency and scope of practice

Additional Requirements

Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements. All required licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.
