Mechanics on site provide safe, reliable maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, vehicles, and generators in a remote camp environment, including diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and support for daily site operations. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSafetyExercise stop-work authority when necessaryComplete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for each jobParticipate in daily tool box meetings and weekly safety meetingsComply with on-site safety programsAdhere to the company's hazard communication program for on-site hazardous chemicals.MechanicalConduct general maintenance of heavy equipment, light equipment, generators, passenger vehicles and ATV'sDiagnose and repair all safety-related defects on vehicles and equipmentPerforms routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups.Performs tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function; ensures that all critical parts are examined.Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance.Visits job sites to inspect vehicles.Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.Maintain inventory control on all parts and fluidsEnsure tools and equipment are in good operating orderPerforms other related duties as assigned.CommunicationReport all safety, environmental and security incidents to site management immediately. Complete incident reportsQUALFICATIONSEducation and trainingValid Driver License required. (Alaska residents >90 days must have a valid Alaska Driver License)Heavy Equipment Repair, Diesel Technician or related training (documented), certificate or diploma strongly preferredExperience and SkillsLevel 1A minimum of 1 year of experience maintaining modern diesel engines, gas engines, hydraulic and air systems. Experience or training with arc welding and gas cutting/welding is an asset. Level 2A minimum of 2-5 years of experience maintaining modern diesel engines, gas engines, hydraulic and air systems.Experience with diagnostic procedures and diagnostic software.Proficient with arc and wireline welding and gas cutting/welding. Level 3A minimum of 6 years of experience maintaining modern diesel engines, gas engines, hydraulic and air systems.Proficient in the use of diagnostic procedures and diagnostic software.Expert in arc and wireline welding and gas cutting/welding. All LevelsAbility to work effectively in a team settingExtensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repairGood mechanical repair skillsGood analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to read and interpret repair manuals, labels, instruction manuals and Safety Data Sheets as well as to record daily notes and shared logsAbility to be flexible and adaptable to changeKnowledge of and ability to carry out safe remote operational proceduresAbility to deal tactfully with camp staff, contractors and visitorsAbility to follow instructions effectively and in a timely mannerAbility to perform heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Ability to work for long periods in a remote location This is a seasonal position, expected to work from April to October, with a rotational schedule.
