Sterling Engineering is partnering with a leading heavy industrial equipment manufacturer to hire a High Voltage Field Service Technician to support large scale ship to shore crane systems at port facilities throughout the U.S. and internationally. This is a highly hands-on position for someone with experience working on medium/high voltage electrical systems, large AC/DC motors, VFDs, PLC controls, and heavy industrial equipment.
Location: Remote, U.S. Based | 75%+ Travel
Salary: $100,000–$110,000 Base
  • Additional Compensation: Daily overtime pay, weekend premium rates, and additional travel related earnings

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and support large scale ship to shore crane systems and other heavy industrial equipment.
  • Work hands on with medium/high voltage electrical systems, large AC/DC motors, drives, and associated power and control equipment.
  • Commission and troubleshoot AC/DC drive systems and medium voltage VFDs.
  • Diagnose complex electrical, controls, motor, and equipment failures in the field.
  • Troubleshoot PLC based control systems and identify electrical and automation related issues.
  • Perform system tuning, diagnostics, testing, and performance optimization.
  • Support equipment commissioning, startup, customer acceptance testing, and warranty activities.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Perform electrical testing and verify proper equipment operation following repairs or commissioning.
  • Train customers and maintenance personnel on equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance best practices.
  • Prepare detailed service reports and communicate findings to customers and internal engineering teams.
  • Travel domestically and internationally approximately 75% or more, including travel on short notice when required.
  • Work safely at heights of up to approximately 175 feet while servicing large crane systems.
Qualifications
  • Strong hands on experience with medium or high voltage industrial electrical equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting and servicing large AC/DC motors, medium voltage VFDs, drives, and industrial control systems.
  • Previous experience working with heavy industrial equipment or large scale machinery.
  • Field service, commissioning, startup, or industrial maintenance experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC controlled equipment.
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Comfortable working independently in customer facilities and industrial environments.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally 75% or more.
  • Comfortable working at heights and around large industrial equipment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  • Equivalent technical training and extensive hands on industrial electrical experience will be considered in place of a degree.
