Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Operating Room
Job Summary
Delivers specialized perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgical procedures such as CABG, valve repair/replacement, and other open-heart surgeries. Functions as scrub and/or circulating nurse within the cardiovascular operating room, working closely with the surgical team to ensure patient safety throughout the perioperative period.
Education & Experience
• Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Required)
• Minimum 2 years of OR or cardiovascular surgical nursing experience (Preferred)
Licenses & Certifications
• Current RN license in state of practice (Required)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (Required)
• CNOR (Certified Perioperative Nurse) certification (Preferred)
Key Responsibilities
• Prepares the cardiovascular operating room, including specialized equipment such as bypass and perfusion support systems.
• Functions as scrub or circulating nurse during open-heart and other cardiovascular surgical procedures.
• Maintains sterile field and ensures accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and responds promptly to changes in patient status during surgery.
• Coordinates with perfusionists, anesthesia, and surgical team to support safe cardiopulmonary bypass and recovery.
• Documents intraoperative care, devices used, and patient response in the medical record.
