Job Description
Overview
The Panel Shop Technician II – Manufacturing & Installation supports the build and wiring of electrical control panels for both internal and external customers at Pillar Innovations. This role is ideal for someone with a solid working knowledge of electrical control panels and wiring practices who is comfortable taking on more responsibility while continuing to grow their skills. In this position, you’ll assist with panel assembly, basic troubleshooting, and repairs, while helping ensure panels meet quality standards.
The role requires flexibility for extended hours as needed and occasional travel to customer sites, sometimes with overnight stays. If you’re ready to build on your experience and take the next step in a hands-on, team-focused environment, this is a great opportunity to do so.
Responsibilities
General Duties
- Exercise safe electrical practices and learn to identify hazards in the workplace
- Read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
- Ensure project documents are accurate and complete
- Prepare and layout materials for jobs according to specifications
- Recognize and report any necessary revisions for As-Built drawings to Foreman and/or Project Manager
- Assist with on-site installations as needed
- Train and mentor Panel Shop Tech I’s
Layout & Panel Building
- Measure, layout, and fabricate enclosures according to CAD drawings and bill of materials
- Prepare and mount din rail and Panduit
- Install terminal blocks and devices
Control Wiring
- Wire control panels according to CAD drawings and bill of materials
- Assemble control panels and enclosures
- Mount components on panels
- Perform wire cutting, stripping, and crimping
- Perform testing of finished panels
Electronics & Soldering
- Solder control board circuits and electrical components such as resistors and capacitors
- Mount and Assemble control boards
- Assist with Quality Control testing of control boards
Powered Systems
- Stay up-to-date with and follow electrical codes and safe wiring practices
- Assist with installing transformers and other power regulating equipment
Working Conditions
- Stand for an extended period of time
- Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls / reach with hands and arms / crawl / kneel
- The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Qualifications
- 2+ years’ experience and/or education in electrical related work preferred
- Ability to work under minimal supervision, within broad guidelines of procedures and goals
- Ability to independently troubleshoot electrical circuits, boards, etc.
- Ability to consistently meet quality standards
- Ability to differentiate color codes
- Ability to read and comprehend electrical schematics
- Proficient in electrical theory and shop standards
- Ability to use basic and advanced hand and power tools such as pliers, hacksaws, wire strippers, multimeters, drills, grinders, etc.
