Job Description
The Powerhouse Assistant Chief Engineer responsibilities include but are not limited to the following major items.
Primary Job Tasks Responsibilities:
On a daily basis:
• Organize the job schedule for the day crew (Lead mechanic, watch operator, and mechanics).
• Coordinate with generator technicians on work schedule.
• Responsible for generator sequence changes when required.
• Responsible for the operation of the equipment in the powerhouse and pump rooms.
• Bring to the Chief Engineers attention any items that need addressing.
• Take hourly equipment readings, visually inspect operating and non-operating equipment.
• Coordinate vacation and time off schedule of engineers and watch operators.
• Provide technical guidance when required for the engineers, mechanics and watch operators.
• Monitor fuel consumption and inform Chief Engineer when and how much fuel needs to be ordered.
• Keep an accurate log of the maintenance and operation of all equipment and events in the Powerhouse.
• Assume some of the Chief Engineer’ duties that require immediate attention in the Chiefs absence.
• Be on call 24/7 for all emergencies should they arise.
On a monthly basis:
• Oversee the measurement of the fuel oil storage tanks and supply the Chief Engineer with the levels.
• Provide the Chief Engineer with the fuel delivery data for the month and fuel consumed data.
• Update records in the MPP manual kept onsite for the cooling towers maintenance and inspections as required for the Department of Health.
Qualifications:
• NYC Department of Buildings Stationary Engineer License
• FDNY Refrigeration Engineer License
• FDNY Air Compressor Certificate
• Work experience with steam boilers, chillers and cooling towers.
• Understanding and awareness of generators
• Experience with motors, pumps, fans, storage tanks, expansion tanks and piping systems.
• Trouble shooting and problem solving.
