Overview

What You’ll Do

As a Recreational Technician, you will work closely with the Recreational Therapy and clinical teams to:

  • Assist with and lead structured recreational and therapeutic activities for patients.
  • Encourage patients to participate in group activities, games, exercise, arts and crafts, leisure activities, and other therapeutic programming.
  • Help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for patients.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and observation of patients during recreational activities.
  • Assist with setting up, organizing, and cleaning activity areas and supplies.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and communicate professionally with patients.
  • Observe patient behaviors and communicate concerns or significant changes to the appropriate clinical staff.
  • Assist with maintaining patient safety and following established behavioral health safety procedures.
  • Support de-escalation and redirection of patients when appropriate and within training.
  • Work collaboratively with nurses, therapists, social workers, Mental Health Technicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Document patient participation or other required information according to facility procedures.
  • Follow all hospital policies related to patient rights, confidentiality, safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support patient care and recreational programming.

Responsibilities

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working in behavioral health, healthcare, recreation, education, childcare, activities, or a related environment is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate patients with different needs and abilities.
  • Creative, energetic, patient, and dependable.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and patient confidentiality.
