Job Summary:
The Vice President, Underwriter - Casualty will play a vital role that helps support the growth of the business by participating in the development and execution of strategic insurance programs for the organization. This position is with our client, a global program manager, and is hybrid in their New York office. Responsibilities:
- Prepare reports, presentations and special projects to assist in ensuring the success of the new program onboard process.
- Maintain responsibility for the daily oversight and communications of newly onboarded programs.
- Review and analyze all facets of the due diligence process for actuarial, underwriting, claims, financials, compliance, operations, legal and regulatory.
- Maintain responsibility for the documentation of the due diligence files, preparation of committee reports, development of contracts and overall maintenance of the program files.
- Conduct research within the company and/or externally to obtain data to support new business initiatives.
- Establish and maintain relationships with prospective program administrators and reinsurance brokers to provide excellent customer service.
- Monitor the profitability, review underwriting audits, and check premium and claims bordereaux for consistency with the agreed upon program terms of newly onboarded programs.
- Provide input to the development of product analysis, services, geographic focus and broker intelligence.
- Review, evaluate, and recommend modifications to the underwriting and due diligence process.
- Evaluate and analyze market trends for growth opportunities and compliance/regulatory guidelines.
- Directly manage and develop more junior underwriters, and assist other leaders as necessary.
- Support the Chief Underwriting Officer in the development and implementation of reinsurance strategies that align with the company’s risk tolerance, financial objectives and growth targets.
- Analyze risk exposure and collaborate with underwriting and actuarial teams to assess the appropriate level of reinsurance coverage required.
- Identify potential reinsurance partners and/or brokers within the established framework, and negotiate terms, pricing, and contract structures to optimize coverage and minimize risk.
- Assist in the coordination of facultative strategies and controls.
- Develop and foster relationships with reinsurance brokers and reinsurance markets to facilitate placements, execution of contract wording and gain market intelligence.
- 10+ years of experience in program underwriting and insurance industry
- Commercial auto experience
- Proven skills and abilities to build relationships in market
- Bachelor's degree
