Job Title: Shipyard Welder/Shipfitter
Job Description MUST BE LOCATED ON OAHU- THIS IS NOT A PERDIEM/TRAVEL OPPOTUNITY
This role focuses on fabricating, assembling, and installing structural components of ships and marine vessels in a shipyard environment. You will work from blueprints and technical drawings to construct and maintain hulls, bulkheads, frames, and other critical structures, ensuring each vessel meets stringent safety and quality standards. The position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the structural integrity and reliability of marine vessels while collaborating with other skilled trades.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate and assemble structural parts of ships, including bulkheads, frames, hulls, decks, doors, hatches, and other components.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine specifications, measurements, and material requirements.
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and shaping of metal components using appropriate tools, machinery, and equipment.
- Install and secure fittings, fixtures, and other structural and mechanical components on ships and marine vessels.
- Use rigging tools and techniques to position, align, and secure large structural sections and parts.
- Inspect and test completed work to verify alignment, fit, and structural integrity, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Check for defects, leaks, and other issues, and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Assist in vessel modifications and upgrades, including structural changes and retrofits.
- Perform routine maintenance on tools, equipment, and work areas to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Follow all shipyard safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safe work practices.
- Collaborate closely with welders, pipefitters, electricians, and other tradespeople to coordinate tasks and complete projects on schedule.
- Carry out general labor and construction-related tasks as needed to support shipyard operations.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in welding techniques suitable for shipyard and structural fabrication work.
- Ability to perform cutting, grinding, and shaping of metal components using hand and power tools.
- Strong capability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Solid understanding of ship fabrication, construction, and shipfitting practices.
- Attention to detail to ensure accurate measurements, alignment, and high-quality workmanship.
- Effective problem-solving skills to identify and resolve structural, fit, and quality issues.
- Physical stamina to work on your feet, handle heavy materials, and operate tools and equipment in a shipyard setting.
- Manual dexterity and coordination to perform precise cutting, fitting, and welding tasks.
- Familiarity with shipyard safety protocols, including working around heavy machinery and in confined spaces.
- Ability to perform general labor and construction tasks in a marine industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Technical certification, trade school training, or completion of an apprenticeship in welding, fabrication, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in shipyard operations, shipfitting, or marine construction is advantageous.
- Comfort working in shipyards, dry docks, or onboard vessels, including exposure to outdoor elements.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team with other skilled trades.
- Willingness to follow detailed instructions and adapt to changing project requirements.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
