Estimator / Project Engineer – Custom Design & Architectural Division

Location: Dallas, TX
Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Salary: $70,000–$85,000 annually
Relocation: Candidates willing to relocate are encouraged to apply.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Estimator / Project Engineer to join our growing Banquet & Custom Design Division in Dallas, TX. This is a unique opportunity for someone who can wear two hats—supporting both project engineering and estimating while developing into a key member of the project management team.

The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD, architectural design, construction estimating, or project engineering and be comfortable working with construction drawings, specifications, material takeoffs, and custom architectural products.

This position will work closely with Project Managers, the Division Leader, sales, design teams, clients, and manufacturing partners to help bring custom banquet seating and architectural feature projects from concept through completion.

We are also increasingly incorporating AI and technology into our estimating processes, so candidates with experience using AI estimating tools—or those who are highly tech-savvy and eager to learn—will be especially valuable.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating

  • Prepare detailed estimates and material takeoffs from architectural drawings, specifications, and project documents.
  • Review plans and specifications to determine project scope, quantities, materials, labor, and pricing.
  • Perform quantity calculations and develop accurate project budgets.
  • Obtain and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing partners.
  • Assist with proposals, bids, and change order pricing.
  • Identify potential scope gaps, discrepancies, and cost impacts during the estimating process.
  • Utilize estimating software, CAD, Bluebeam, Excel, and emerging AI technologies to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency.
  • Help develop and maintain estimating templates, databases, and standard pricing information.
  • Continuously identify ways to use technology and AI to streamline the estimating process.

Project Engineering

  • Assist the Division Leader and Project Managers with all phases of project execution.
  • Prepare project submittals, shop drawings, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate project details, schedules, materials, and deliverables with clients and internal teams.
  • Order materials and track procurement throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Review project revisions and evaluate impacts to project scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, and specifications.
  • Coordinate with designers, manufacturers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain a library of shop drawing details and standard project information.

CAD & Custom Design

  • Create and modify CAD drawings for custom architectural and fabrication projects.
  • Assist with the development of shop drawings and design concepts.
  • Support the Design/Build portion of the Custom Features Division.
  • Collaborate with the design and project management teams to develop economical, functional, and visually appealing solutions.
  • Assist with custom architectural elements involving materials such as:
    • Metal
    • Glass
    • Wood
    • Fabrics
    • Specialty architectural materials
  • Research and coordinate with manufacturing partners for specialty and custom products.
  • As experience develops, participate in architectural presentations alongside the sales and project management teams.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in construction estimating, project engineering, architectural drafting, CAD, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with CAD software is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, construction plans, and specifications.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform material takeoffs and quantity calculations.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Basic understanding of construction sequencing, materials, and trade coordination.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interest in technology and AI applications in estimating and construction.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new software and technology quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Architectural CAD or drafting experience.
  • Experience with Revit, Fusion, or other 3D design software.
  • Construction estimating experience.
  • Project engineering or project coordination experience.
  • Experience with custom fabrication, architectural products, furniture, interiors, or design/build construction.
  • Knowledge of SAGE 100.
  • Experience utilizing AI tools for estimating, design, document review, or other construction applications.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field is a plus.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is career-minded, technically capable, and eager to grow. The right person will have the ability to move between estimating, CAD/design, and project engineering responsibilities and become a valuable resource to the division.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants more than a traditional estimating role and is interested in developing a broad skill set across estimating, architectural design, project engineering, and project management.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow with the organization and potentially advance into a Project Manager or leadership position as their experience and capabilities develop.
