Founded in 2003, Voces Latinas empowers, educates, and provides direct services to immigrant Latines—including survivors of intimate partner violence, LGBTQIA+ individuals, day laborers, and sex workers. We address the social determinants of health through culturally responsive mental health services, HIV/STI prevention, and community advocacy in Queens, NY.
Position Overview
Voces Latinas seeks a compassionate and skilled Bilingual Mental Health Therapist for our Domestic Violence / Intimate Partner Violence (DV/IPV) Program. In this role, you will provide short-term individual trauma-informed therapy, psychoeducation, safety planning, and crisis intervention, while managing a small case management caseload for marginalized immigrant populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Therapeutic Services: Conduct in-person and virtual individual therapy sessions utilizing trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing.
- Screening & Assessment: Administer standardized mental health and substance use tools (PHQ-9, GAD-7, intake screenings).
- Safety Planning & Crisis Intervention: Develop individualized safety plans for clients experiencing DV/IPV, sexual assault, or suicidal/homicidal ideation.
- Case Management & Advocacy: Maintain a small caseload for case management; advocate for clients with ACS, law enforcement, and local social service agencies.
- Clinical Documentation: Complete progress notes, service plans, client goal tracking, and monthly data reports in a timely manner.
- Community Engagement: Represent Voces Latinas at community forums, coalition meetings, and outreach events to promote DV/IPV services.
- Student Supervision (A Plus): SIFI-certified candidates will have the opportunity to supervise MSW/mental health intern students.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Mental Health Counseling (MHC), Psychology, or related clinical field.
- Licensure: NY State License preferred (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT) or eligible limited permit holders.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and Spanish (written and oral) is required.
- Experience: 3+ years of clinical/therapeutic experience preferred, with specialized expertise in domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma-informed care.
- Community Knowledge: Strong familiarity with social services and immigrant resources in Queens County and the NYC healthcare system.
- Core Competencies: Cultural humility, passion for working with immigrant Latine and LGBTQIA+ populations, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
