Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Traveling Superintendent with a strong background in large-scale grocery store construction and remodels. This role requires an organized, detail-oriented leader who can manage complex projects in active retail environments while working out of town for extended assignments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all on-site construction activities for ground-up and renovation projects in major grocery stores
  • Manage projects in occupied, open-store environments, ensuring minimal disruption to store operations
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and trades to maintain schedule and efficiency
  • Enforce safety standards and ensure strict compliance with OSHA and company policies
  • Maintain project timelines, conduct daily progress updates, and resolve field issues quickly
  • Collaborate with project managers, store management, and clients to meet expectations
  • Oversee installation of key grocery components such as:

Refrigeration systems

Freezer/cooler cases

Food service areas

High-traffic customer spaces

  • Ensure adherence to local building codes, health regulations, and quality standards
  • Conduct site inspections and manage punch list completion

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Superintendent experience in retail construction, with strong preference for grocery store projects
  • Proven experience working in large grocery chains (e.g., Kroger, Walmart, H-E-B, Albertsons, etc.)
  • Experience in remodels, phased construction, and open-store environments
  • Strong understanding of MEP systems, especially refrigeration and food-service buildouts
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and maintain tight deadlines
  • Willingness to travel extensively and stay out of town for the duration of projects
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred
