Director of Construction - Commercial Healthcare Projects
Job Description
The Opportunity
A national energy-infrastructure and construction organization is seeking a Director of Construction to provide regional field-operations leadership across complex commercial healthcare projects. Working with senior delivery leadership, this position establishes and enforces the standards required to achieve safe, predictable, profitable, and high-quality project outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a business-minded construction leader who has not lost touch with the field. This role requires executive presence, organizational leadership, and the practical construction knowledge needed to mentor Construction Managers, Superintendents, and project teams.
What You Will Own
1. Support regional delivery strategy and translate senior-leadership objectives into consistent field execution.
2. Establish and enforce field procedures for safety, planning, scheduling, quality control, inspections, and project delivery.
3. Champion OSHA, ICRA, company safety, incident-prevention, and zero-incident initiatives across project sites.
4. Review multi-project execution, staffing, resource allocation, budgets, schedules, constructability, and operational risk.
5. Coordinate Project Managers, Superintendents, Construction Managers, subcontractors, and vendors to protect schedule and quality.
6. Develop quality-control standards and ensure deficiencies are identified, documented, and resolved promptly.
7. Support subcontractor selection, negotiations, performance management, and risk mitigation.
8. Contribute field expertise during preconstruction, planning, procurement, and execution-readiness reviews.
9. Mentor field and project leaders, strengthen accountability, and develop the next generation of construction leadership.
10. Serve as a senior client contact and represent the organization in client, industry, and community settings.
Required Qualifications
11. At least 15 years of experience managing large, complex commercial construction projects, including five or more years in a leadership role.
12. HCAI/OSHPD healthcare-construction experience.
13. Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related technical discipline.
14. Multi-project, regional, or enterprise-level field-operations leadership.
15. Strong mechanical/MEP construction knowledge and practical field credibility.
16. Demonstrated safety, scheduling, quality, subcontractor, preconstruction, and resource-management leadership.
17. Experience mentoring Construction Managers, Superintendents, Project Managers, and other field leaders.
18. Executive-level judgment, negotiation, conflict resolution, communication, and client-management skills.
19. Ability to travel approximately 50-75% across project and office locations.
Preferred Background
20. Leadership within a hospital system, large healthcare builder, GC, MEP contractor, or energy-services organization.
21. Direct trade, Superintendent, General Superintendent, or field-operations foundation.
22. Experience leading organizational change, standardizing operating procedures, and improving performance across a growing business.
23. Mechanical installations, infrastructure modernization, central plants, controls, commissioning, or occupied-facility work.
How to Apply
Submit a current resume and a brief project list that identifies:
24. Largest individual projects and total portfolio responsibility
25. Hospital and HCAI/OSHPD scope
26. Field and mechanical/MEP background, leadership scope, and examples of safety, quality, operational, or organizational improvement
