Job Description

Join Our Team of Solar Excellence

Solar Service Technician / Electrician

We are looking for an experienced, highly skilled Solar Service Technician / Electrician who knows how to walk onto a system, diagnose the problem, and see the job through to resolution.

This is not an entry-level installation position.

Local Solar Services is looking for a technician with real field experience troubleshooting residential solar, storage, electrical, and communication issues. We want someone who understands that service work requires more than turning a wrench—it takes judgment, documentation, communication, patience, and the ability to solve problems that are not always obvious.

We have more than 13 years in the solar industry, and we take pride in doing things correctly. We are looking for technicians who hold themselves to the same standard.

If you are the person other technicians call when they cannot figure something out, we want to talk to you.

You should be comfortable independently troubleshooting and servicing residential solar systems, including:

  • Inverter failures and error codes
  • SolarEdge, Enphase, SMA, Tesla, and other major platforms
  • String voltage and current testing
  • Optimizer and microinverter troubleshooting
  • Ground faults and arc faults
  • AC and DC electrical issues
  • Communication and monitoring failures
  • CT and consumption-monitoring issues
  • Breakers, disconnects, meters, and electrical equipment
  • Battery and energy-storage systems
  • Module-level troubleshooting
  • System commissioning and recommissioning
  • Equipment replacement and RMA work
  • Existing systems installed by other contractors
  • Aging or poorly documented systems requiring field investigation

You should be able to arrive on site, assess the system, determine what is actually wrong, document your findings clearly, and provide the office with a confident recommendation for the next step.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair residential solar and battery systems.
  • Perform AC and DC electrical testing safely and accurately.
  • Read electrical diagrams, plans, equipment specifications, and manufacturer documentation.
  • Troubleshoot inverters, optimizers, microinverters, batteries, communications equipment, CTs, meters, and related components.
  • Replace failed equipment and verify proper operation after repairs.
  • Commission and configure solar and storage equipment.
  • Work directly with manufacturer technical-support teams when necessary.
  • Identify safety concerns or workmanship issues beyond the original service request.
  • Take complete before, during, and after photos of every job.
  • Record voltages, amperage, serial numbers, error codes, system status, and other required field information.
  • Write clear service notes explaining what was found, what was completed, and what still needs to happen.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with homeowners.
  • Keep the office informed when field conditions change.
  • Maintain an organized vehicle, tools, equipment, and work area.
  • Follow electrical, OSHA, fall-protection, and company safety requirements.
  • Help less-experienced technicians improve through leadership and example.

The Technician We Want:

We care as much about how you work as what you know.

We want someone who:

  • Takes ownership of the job.
  • Does not guess when troubleshooting.
  • Checks their work before leaving.
  • Documents everything.
  • Speaks up when something is unsafe or incorrect.
  • Treats homeowners with patience and respect.
  • Communicates when they need help.
  • Can work independently without needing constant supervision.
  • Takes pride in craftsmanship.
  • Wants to continue learning.
  • Accepts accountability when something goes wrong.
  • Helps the team rather than only looking out for themselves.
  • Chooses integrity even when nobody is watching.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of residential solar field experience.
  • Strong preference for dedicated solar service and troubleshooting experience.
  • Working knowledge of residential electrical systems.
  • Ability to safely use a multimeter and other electrical testing equipment.
  • Experience reading one-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment documentation.
  • Comfortable working on roofs and around energized electrical equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with customers, office staff, manufacturers, and other technicians.

Electrical licensing, manufacturer certifications, battery experience, and advanced troubleshooting experience are highly valued.

Why Join Local Solar Services?

  • Work alongside experienced residential solar professionals.
  • Solve challenging service problems rather than performing repetitive installation work every day.
  • Work on a wide range of solar, battery, electrical, and roofing-related systems.
  • Be part of a company that values technician judgment and field experience.
  • Clear processes and strong office support.
  • Commitment to five-star homeowner experiences.
  • Continued technical and professional development.
  • Opportunities to grow into senior technician and leadership roles.
  • A company culture centered on execution, integrity, accountability, and kindness.

Schedule:

Monday–Friday
Approximately 40 hours per week

One Last Thing, we are looking for excellent technicians—but we are equally interested in people who are determined to become excellent.

You do not need to know everything.

You do need to care enough to find the answer, communicate honestly, finish what you start, and leave every customer and every system better than you found them.

If that sounds like the way you work, we would like to meet you.
