Position Summary

The Merchandise Return Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and assisting with the repair of returned grills and related products. This is an entry-level position, and training will be provided on company products, troubleshooting procedures, testing methods, and repair processes.

The employee will evaluate returned merchandise to identify reported or visible issues, perform basic repairs or replace components as needed, and test products to confirm they are operating properly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect returned grills and related products for damage, defects, missing parts, or other issues.
  • Review information provided with returned merchandise to understand the reported problem.
  • Test returned products to identify and reproduce reported issues.
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical, ignition, electrical, gas-flow, and product-related concerns using established procedures.
  • Disassemble and reassemble grills and components as needed for inspection and repair.
  • Replace damaged, defective, or worn components as directed.
  • Perform basic repairs and adjustments following company procedures and training.
  • Test products after repairs to confirm proper operation.
  • Follow all required safety procedures when working with grills, gas components, electrical components, tools, and testing equipment.
  • Document identified problems, repairs performed, parts replaced, and final product condition.
  • Determine, with guidance when necessary, whether merchandise can be repaired, returned to inventory, used for parts, or requires further evaluation.
  • Report recurring defects or unusual product issues to the supervisor or appropriate department.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, parts, and the work area in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow company quality, safety, and return procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • This is an entry-level position; product-specific training will be provided.
  • No previous grill repair experience is required.
  • Must have basic mechanical aptitude and hands-on skills.
  • Must be comfortable using basic hand tools and performing basic assembly and disassembly tasks.
  • Must be able to follow operational procedures and learn product testing and troubleshooting processes.
  • Ability to identify basic mechanical issues and use problem-solving skills.
  • Must be willing and able to learn how to safely operate, test, troubleshoot, and repair company products.
  • Previous manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, or repair experience is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, kneel, and perform hands-on work throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools after appropriate training.
  • Ability to lift, move, and position grills, parts, and other merchandise with appropriate assistance or equipment when necessary.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing, warehouse, and repair environment.
