Cost Accountant

Location: City of Industry, CA
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Plant Controller
Pay Range: $70,000 - $85,000 DOE


Position Summary

The Cost Accountant manages day-to-day cost accounting activities for a manufacturing facility. This role analyzes product costs, inventory, profitability, and plant financial performance while supporting month-end reporting and cost-improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze product costs, margins, and profitability.
  • Support the Plant Controller with month-end closing and financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly profit-and-loss statements.
  • Provide detailed P&L and variance analysis.
  • Identify cost-saving and profitability-improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain and audit raw materials, work-in-process, finished goods, tooling, and fixed-asset records.
  • Calculate inventory values and verify accurate cost rollups.
  • Maintain the cost-accounting functions within the ERP system and ensure data integrity.
  • Coordinate capital-expenditure procedures, including asset numbering, payment tracking, and recordkeeping.
  • Partner with operations and other departments to ensure accurate and meaningful financial reporting.
  • Process applicable business expenses and reimbursement documentation.
  • Assist the Plant Controller with special projects and financial analysis.
  • Maintain accurate procedures, records, and internal controls.
  • Follow all company, legal, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Report suspected nonconformances, unsafe conditions, and procedural violations.
  • Participate in required training and continuous-improvement activities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least three years of cost-accounting experience.
  • Manufacturing cost-accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of cost accounting, financial reporting, inventory valuation, fixed assets, and profitability analysis.
  • Experience using ERP, integrated accounting, inventory, manufacturing, database, and payroll systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret financial data, technical procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and work effectively with operations and management.
  • Must meet applicable U.S.-person requirements under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).


Physical and Work Environment

  • Regularly works in an office environment within a manufacturing facility.
  • Requires prolonged sitting and computer use, with occasional standing and walking.
  • Must occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds.
  • May be exposed to manufacturing equipment, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate-to-loud noise.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment in designated areas.
  • Must follow all health, safety, environmental, and hazardous-material procedures.
