Position Overview
Ancora is seeking an experienced Special Inspector to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have experience performing inspections on active construction sites, a strong understanding of construction practices and applicable codes, and an FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) certification.
This is a hands-on field position working closely with engineers, contractors, and project teams to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform special inspections on active construction sites in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Inspect structural and construction-related work and document compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate daily records.
- Review construction drawings and specifications to understand inspection requirements.
- Identify deficiencies and communicate findings to contractors, engineers, and project teams.
- Document site conditions through reports, photographs, and other required documentation.
- Coordinate with project engineers and other inspectors regarding field conditions and inspection results.
- Maintain required inspection certifications and stay current with NYC DOB requirements and applicable codes.
- Travel to various construction sites throughout the NYC metropolitan area.
Qualifications
- E.I.T/FE certification required.
- Experience performing special inspections on construction sites.
- ICC certification(s) in applicable inspection disciplines strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering field preferred.
- Knowledge of NYC Building Code, NYC DOB requirements, and construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of structural construction and building materials.
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and interact professionally with contractors and project teams.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to construction sites throughout the NYC metropolitan area.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- NICET certification or relevant engineering/construction experience is a plus.
