3rd Shift Production Supervisor
Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
· Primary requirement of this position is to manage the day-to-day production activities and maintain a high level or safety, quality and productivity standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Ensure the production team adheres to company safety standards including personal protective equipment (PPE) and job safety analysis (JSA) requirements.
· Report any safety accidents, incidents, first-aid or near-misses to the plant manager and HR. Conduct accident investigations and prepare safety reports. Work with safety committee members to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to eliminate the safety risk.
· Review customer and internal quality concerns and develop corrective actions to eliminate root causes. Lead or participate in 8D analysis when required.
· Review daily production reports for activity against plan and make modifications or improvements as needed to attain weekly and monthly production targets.
· Review the production backlog and schedule work orders to the production work centers to ensure customer delivery dates and output targets are attained. Perform final review of work orders for accuracy prior to costing.
· Analyze downtime trends in the department and work with maintenance to implement necessary unplanned or preventative maintenance tasks to maximize uptime.
· Maintain housekeeping standards in the department and make appropriate assignments as necessary to ensure acceptable standards are consistently met.
· Ensure production supplies are stocked and available. Create purchase requisitions and work with appropriate personnel to launch purchase orders to re-stock supplies.
· Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement kaizen events implementing lean strategies to improve productivity. Drive standard work practices utilizing audits to review adherence to those standards practices.
· Review budget items regularly to ensure department costs are in-line with expectations.
· Conduct required safety and quality training for all employees including daily huddle meetings, safety stand-downs and quality alerts. Document all safety and quality discussions utilizing the training form.
· Conduct employee evaluations and provide salary recommendations. Discuss evaluations with the employees providing feedback on areas that the employee excels, opportunities for improvement and next steps for cross-training. Develop plans with employees to drive performance improvement and cross-training skills.
· Understand how to operate equipment in assigned work areas to enable efficient root cause determination of safety, quality and productivity concerns as well as provide training for employees. Ensure all process steps are documented in standard work charts and work instructions.
· Schedule employees in the department to achieve required production targets and maximize on-time delivery while minimizing overtime costs. Update ADP with current production schedules and employee time & attendance is accurate. Document employee absences, late arrivals, early leaves and vacations. Work with HR to administer any attendance disciplinary actions.
· Ensure employees adhere to all New Process Steel rules and regulations regarding workplace conduct, providing appropriate coaching when necessary. Work with HR to administer disciplinary actions where necessary.
· Demonstrate good attendance, work ethic and work habits including safe work practices and housekeeping standards. Role modeling is done primarily through behavior and teaching of team tasks to other team members.
· Communicate effectively with peers including supervisors on other shifts, plant management, customer service teams and other cross-functional team members to carry out the duties and responsibilities listed above.
· All other responsibilities or duties as assigned by the plant manager.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS AND MEASUREMENT
· Safety results through OSHA log metrics, completion of Gemba walks, identification of safety concerns and completion of safety action items.
· Quality results through customer and internal defective pounds per million processed and the timely completion of root cause and corrective action tasks.
· Production results through on-time delivery, tons produced to plan, uptime tons-per-hour and tons-per-man-hour metrics.
· Consistency of housekeeping standards in assigned areas.
· Timeliness of assignments and follow-up until completion.
· Leadership of the department in promoting problem solving, team building and fostering a cooperative spirit with other departments.
· Cost target results through proper management of the monthly department budget.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree preferred or combination of education, experience and proven track record in management of personnel.
· Experience in sheet metal processing or sheet metal fabrication.
· Good computer skills with experience with Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint as well as ERP or production management systems.
· OSHA safety training. Administration of a successful safety program.
· ISO 9000 training for quality requirements.
· Experience in lean tools such as continuous flow, SMED, TPM, Kanban & 5S preferred.
