Job Description
The Payroll Specialist processes bi-weekly payroll and supports payroll systems to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely pay for all employees. This role manages payroll transactions in Workday and UKG Pro, maintains payroll records, supports audits, and serves as a key point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and system improvements.
Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll transactions, including compensation changes, deductions, adjustments, and other related payroll activities.
- Review, audit, and process employee timekeeping records within UKG Pro to ensure accuracy and compliance with organizational policies and wage and hour regulations.
- Maintain and support Workday Payroll processes, including troubleshooting payroll issues and assisting with system optimization.
- Participate in Workday Payroll design, configuration, testing, implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate payroll activities related to new hires, transfers, status changes, and terminations to ensure accurate and timely updates.
- Prepare and reconcile payroll reports and perform balancing activities to support accurate payroll processing and reporting.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements, including federal, state, and foreign national payroll registration and tax documentation.
- Prepare manual payroll checks and off-cycle payroll transactions when needed to resolve pay issues or special circumstances.
- Respond to employee and manager payroll inquiries and provide timely, accurate resolutions to payroll-related concerns.
- Assist with training and support for department timekeepers and managers on payroll and timekeeping procedures and system usage.
- Maintain payroll records and documentation while ensuring confidentiality, data integrity, and compliance with record-keeping standards.
- Support payroll audits and ensure adherence to applicable wage and hour regulations and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement within payroll operations and related systems.
- Contribute to a professional and service-oriented payroll function that fosters positive working relationships and expands internal networks.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
- At least 3 years of payroll processing experience.
- Hands-on experience administering and processing payroll in Workday and/or UKG Pro.
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax reporting requirements, and wage and hour compliance.
- Solid knowledge of payroll best practices and standard payroll procedures.
- Advanced troubleshooting skills for resolving complex payroll and system-related issues.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills to ensure accurate payroll calculations and reporting.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and ensure data integrity in all payroll activities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy when processing payroll and reviewing timekeeping records.
- Effective communication skills to address payroll inquiries and support training for timekeepers and managers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a healthcare environment is preferred.
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations, enhancements, configuration, or design is preferred.
- Familiarity with both Workday and UKG Pro payroll and timekeeping functionalities.
- Ability to participate in system testing and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple payroll activities and deadlines.
- Customer service mindset with the ability to build positive relationships and expand professional networks.
Work Environment
This role is based on site at a business office in Temple Terrace. The Payroll Specialist works in a professional office environment, using payroll and HR technologies such as Workday and UKG Pro to manage timekeeping and payroll processes. The position involves regular collaboration with employees, managers, and department timekeepers, offering opportunities to meet new people and expand professional networks in a healthcare-oriented business setting.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Tampa, FL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
