Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Paralegal to support civil and defense litigation matters in Montana. This contract-to-hire position is ideal for a detail-oriented legal team member who can manage complex casework, conduct thorough research, and help attorneys move matters forward efficiently. The role requires excellent written and verbal communication, strong organizational judgment, and the ability to balance competing deadlines in a fast-paced practice.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare a wide range of litigation materials, including discovery responses, pleadings, motions, orders, exhibits, and appellate filings, while ensuring accuracy, proper formatting, and compliance with citation standards.

• Conduct in-depth legal research using relevant databases and compile clear, practical summaries that support attorney strategy and case development.

• Review, organize, and manage electronic discovery materials, and assist with all phases of trial readiness, including deposition support, mediation preparation, exhibit coordination, and post-trial follow-up.

• File documents with municipal, state, and federal courts and agencies through applicable electronic filing platforms, ensuring submissions are timely and procedurally correct.

• Examine statutes, judicial decisions, legal policies, and related materials to identify issues, evaluate their impact on active matters, and monitor developments that may affect clients.

• Maintain orderly case records in digital and physical formats, keeping documents accessible, current, and properly indexed throughout the life of each matter.

• Coordinate clear communication with clients, experts, opposing counsel, and other outside parties as directed by attorneys.

• Track court rules, agency procedures, and filing requirements to help ensure ongoing compliance across litigation matters.

• Support case administration by managing calendars, scheduling hearings, depositions, and mediations, monitoring deadlines, and assisting with presentation materials for attorneys.

• At least 3 years of paralegal experience supporting civil litigation or defense litigation matters.
• Demonstrated ability to handle discovery, trial preparation, and document drafting in an active litigation environment.
• Strong knowledge of legal research methods, case law analysis, and preparation of summaries for attorney review.
• Experience working with e-discovery tools, case management software, and document management systems.
• Familiarity with electronic court filing processes in state and federal venues.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with close attention to detail and document quality.
• Proven ability to prioritize assignments, manage deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced setting.
