We are looking for an experienced, detail-oriented accounting specialist to lead the financial oversight of capital initiatives in California. This role partners closely with project teams and business stakeholders to ensure project spending is recorded accurately, budgets are monitored carefully, and assets are capitalized in accordance with company policy. The position also supports audit readiness, strengthens project accounting controls, and contributes to ongoing process improvements across the accounting function.

Responsibilities:
• Manage accounting activity for capital initiatives within the Oracle Projects environment, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and completely.
• Review purchase requests and project-related spending with key stakeholders to confirm appropriate capitalization treatment under company policy and accounting standards.
• Partner with departments across the organization to understand project scope, evaluate long-term asset treatment, and support timely depreciation once assets are placed into service.
• Develop and deliver budget-versus-actual reporting for project leaders, highlighting trends, variances, and areas requiring attention.
• Work with program and project managers to investigate cost variances and help resolve budget concerns affecting project performance.
• Track project expenditures from initiation through completion to support accurate cost accumulation and timely financial closeout.
• Prepare quarterly project status updates that communicate financial progress, risks, and overall tracking results to stakeholders.
• Maintain strong adherence to internal controls related to project accounting and provide documentation and support during external audit activities.
• Recommend and assist with the implementation of process enhancements that improve efficiency, accuracy, and consistency within project accounting.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or 5+ years of directly related experience in lieu of a degree.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years of full-cycle accounting responsibility.
• Solid knowledge of project accounting principles, capitalization practices, and fixed asset depreciation timing.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Microsoft Word for financial analysis and reporting.
• Experience performing reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger activity, and month-end close processes.
• Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and present financial information clearly.
• Familiarity with Oracle systems is required; experience with Oracle Fusion is a plus.
• Exposure to ERP platforms such as NetSuite or SAP is beneficial.
