Job Description

Sunbelt Staffing is working with a Chicago-area school district seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for a full-time contract assignment. This position provides an opportunity to deliver individualized instruction while helping students develop the academic, behavioral, and functional skills they need to succeed. The ideal educator will be comfortable collaborating with families, general education teachers, and related service providers to create a consistent support system for students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specially designed instruction based on individual student needs and IEP objectives
  • Develop and implement engaging lessons with appropriate accommodations and modifications
  • Track student progress through classroom assessments, observations, and data collection
  • Review and update IEPs while maintaining accurate student records
  • Coordinate with general education teachers to support inclusive educational practices
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility reviews, and multidisciplinary conferences
  • Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student development and educational goals
  • Establish a structured classroom environment that encourages participation and independence

  • Ability to respond flexibly to changing student needs

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an appropriate Special Education endorsement
  • Authorization to provide special education services for the applicable student population
  • Understanding of IEP procedures and special education compliance requirements
  • Ability to meet district-specific onboarding and background requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field
  • Master's degree is preferred but not required

Experience

  • Previous special education teaching experience preferred
  • Experience in resource, inclusion, or self-contained classrooms is beneficial
  • Teachers who are newly licensed are encouraged to apply
